Miles Davis & John Coltrane Radio Broadcast Live in Stockholm 1960
Miles Davis & John Coltrane, live from Konserthuset, Stockholm, Sweden on March 22nd 1960.
This was an important period for modern jazz. It was a year since Miles Davis had introduced the world to “modal jazz” on his LP Kind Of Blue. In doing so he had liberated his fellow musicians from the show-song chord sequences that had dominated the genre for over two decades. In Stockholm in 1960 Miles was in fine form, accompanied by Wynton Kelly’s indomitable swing and invention, Paul Chambers’ solid and lyrical bass, Jimmy Cobb’s impeccable propulsion and John Coltrane’s other-worldly inventions. “Once I start, I don’t know how to stop” explained Coltrane to his boss. “just try taking the motherf***ing horn out of your mouth!” suggested Miles.
Performed at Konserthuset, Stockholm on March 22nd 1961, and broadcast by Sveriges Radio.
